About Us

Youth Express delivers a range of programs that encourage strong and sustainable links amongst our key stakeholders: Young People, Education Providers, Business/Industry, Parents and the Community. Our organisation operates within the Maitland, Cessnock, Singleton, Muswellbrook, Scone, Port Stephens & Dungog areas.

The core functions of Youth Express are to:

  • Encourage participation by senior students in Vocational Education and Training (VET).
  • Coordinate structured workplace learning
  • Promote best practice in preparation and training of young people for transition from school to work
  • Assist business and industry to address skill and training needs
  • Support School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships
  • Interact with organisations, community groups and education providers to establish strong relationships for supporting young people

A board manages Youth Express. The Maitland Chamber of Commerce and Industry nominates the chairperson, and members are drawn from:

  • Local Chamber's of Commerce and Industry (Cessnock, Kurri Kurri, Maitland and Singleton)

  • Department of Education and Communities
  • School Principals
  • Community
