The Youth Express “STEAM Shack” is a mobile resource unit that supports the promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) educational and career pathways. The initiative started in 2018 by the Australian Government “Building our Future” Fund that supported upgrades to the caravan. Sponsorship and donations from valued business and industry supported the purchase of equipment to help bring mini drones, robotics and virtual reality equipment to schools and community events to help build aspiration and skills for the future.

Programs and Activities:

All workshops and activities are customised to meet needs of students, size and space available to maximize impact and outcomes. 2019 activities are made possible through sponsorship, donation for fee-for service to support program sustainability.

  • Permission to Play: Based on the philosophy of self-guided learning, participants can engage in activities and explore equipment in 1/2 day or full day sessions.
  • Make Me Move: Structured individual workshops in robotics, coding or drones with industry experts.
  • STEAM Quest: A full day of STEAM activities rotating through drone, robotics and virtual reality workshops.
